AREA OF PRACTICE
Born in Brussels in 1959, Claude Katz obtained his law degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1983 after a year of studies in the United States.
After his pupilage with Me Basile Risopoulos, Claude Katz worked as an independent lawyer and, since 1995, as a specialist in copyright law.
He has advised well-known artists, principally from the world of music, dance, comics, and graphic arts, in Belgium, and abroad.
Since 1995, he is professor of copyright law at the Ecole Nationale d'arts visuels La Cambre.
Claude Katz enjoys advising clients (creation of foundations, contract related to copyright, licensing, etc.) including negotiation and settlements (a ‘problem solver’ rather than a ‘problem maker’!).
He has also built-up a reputation as a court litigator and has won several cases in relation to copyright infringements which have been widely reported in the media.
Claude Katz has extended knowledge in tax law related with copyrights.
